Repairing an EPDM Rubber roof is a simple process. First, the roof needs to be cleaned. We recommend that the roof is cleaned with a mild detergent and rinsed thoroughly.
Depending on the age, condition of the job and the size of the job, we may recommend a surface conditioner or primer. In most cases, however, Liquid Rubber does not require the use of either. The next step is to apply a patch to any torn, ripped or heavily damaged areas. In some case this same procedure may be used on the seams if there is a concern that the seams are separating. For the patch we simply recommend a strip of butyl tape and in some cases a reinforcing fabric. Next, simply coat your rubber roof! For detailed installation instructions please view Liquid Rubber Installation Instructions. For large commercial jobs please consult us to determine if our surface conditioner is necessary
EPDM is a synthetic elastomer made by combining ethylene and propylene with a diene monomer attached. This polymer (when cross linked) is a very good moisture barrier, resistant to oxidation and UV degradation but its most important property is its ability to tolerate both low as well as high temperatures (form -62°F to 350°F). EPDM rubber is used exclusively for radiator hoses, freezer gaskets and low temperature seals, steam hoses, and rubber roofing membranes. It is also blended with other rubbers to improve their properties, A multitude of products are now better and last longer because of the contribution made by EPDM rubber.
